At Wednesday’s Agricultural Export Summit, hosted by South Dakota Trade, regional ag leaders gathered to discuss trade and processing challenges. U.S. Reps. Dusty Johnson (R-SD) and Adrian Smith (R-NE) highlighted recent legislation, with Johnson noting that Trump’s 1,100-page reconciliation bill could streamline the next farm bill.
Still, some priorities remain unaddressed, including rural broadband expansion, Conservation Reserve Program funding, and support for agricultural research and Extension services.
As for timing, Johnson said a new farm bill could theoretically arrive by September—but realistically, it’s more likely to land by year’s end.
