A five-person crew from the Johnson Siding Volunteer Fire Department responded to a small fire near Pactola Reservoit at approximately 6:15 p.m Saturday evening. The fire was traced to an unattended campfire. Crews relied on backpack pumps and hand tools to suppress the flames which were located in an unauthorized camping area within the Black Hills National Forest.
Johnson Siding Fire officials transferred control of the scene to a U.S. Forest Service crew about 90 minutes later.
