The city of Rapid City has launched a dedicated website—wrf.rcgov.org—to keep residents informed about its most ambitious infrastructure initiative: the upgrade of the Water Reclamation Facility.
Visitors to the site can explore a virtual tour of the facility, watch construction progress videos, review a detailed timeline, and stay up to date with regular project news. It also offers insights into the $207.3 million budget, which is fully covered by a combination of funding sources: a State Revolving Fund (SRF) loan, the City’s enterprise fund, and $52.8 million from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
Scheduled for completion in winter 2028, the upgrade aims to modernize aging equipment and infrastructure to meet wastewater treatment demands for the next two decades and beyond. City officials emphasize that the improvements will also enhance environmental protection by ensuring cleaner water flows into Rapid Creek, preserving habitats downstream through more efficient treatment processes.
Originally built in 1967, the Water Reclamation Facility has seen multiple updates over the years. This latest overhaul marks a significant leap forward in sustainability and regulatory compliance.
The website also invites public input—residents can submit questions or comments directly to city officials, making it a hub for transparency and collaboration.
