PIERRE, S.D. — A loophole in South Dakota law means Republican gubernatorial runoff candidates Larry Rhoden and Toby Doeden are not required to disclose campaign fundraising and spending ahead of tomorrows runoff election.
Rhoden’s campaign told KELOLAND News it has raised $1.88 million and expects to spend about $1.7 million during the runoff period. Doeden declined to provide updated figures, saying he has largely self-funded his campaign.
Doeden and Rhoden advanced to the runoff after no candidate reached the 35% threshold required to avoid a runoff in the June 3 Republican primary. The winner will face Democratic nominee Dan Ahlers in November.
