Authorities in South Dakota and Wyoming are actively searching for a 65-year-old St. Onge woman who has been missing since Monday, August 18. The woman was identified in family social media posts as Linda Thacker who is 5 feet 6 inches tall, weights 150 pounds and was last seen wearing a blue shirt and jean shorts.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office initiated the investigation after receiving a welfare check request from a concerned family member who had lost contact with the Thacker earlier in the week. Working in collaboration with the Crook County Sheriff’s Office, officials used technology to trace her vehicle to a remote location near the South Dakota-Wyoming border.
Since the evening of August 19, a large-scale search effort has been underway. The operation includes search and rescue teams from Spearfish, Crook County, Lawrence County, Weston County, and Sheridan County, along with support from the South Dakota National Guard, emergency management agencies from both Lawrence and Crook Counties, and canine units from across Wyoming. Anyone with information can call the Crook County Sheriff’s Office at 307-283-1225.
