MEADE COUNTY, S.D. — A suspect is in custody after leading law enforcement on an eight-hour pursuit across western South Dakota in a stolen pickup truck.
According to the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, the chase began at 2:22 p.m. Sunday after authorities received information about a stolen Ford pickup in the Faith area. An attempted traffic stop by the Faith Police Department led to a pursuit as the suspect allegedly swerved across the roadway and threw beer cans from the vehicle.
The chase continued through Faith, with officers slowing their response in town for public safety. After briefly losing sight of the suspect, law enforcement agencies from across the region joined the search.
A local rancher assisted authorities with an airplane, helping deputies and the Ziebach County Sheriff’s Office locate the stolen pickup in a pasture around 8:20 p.m. Officers converged on the area while the aircraft maintained visual contact.
When the suspect advanced toward officers, deputies deployed non-lethal bean bag rounds and quickly took the individual into custody at approximately 10:20 p.m.
The suspect was offered medical attention and transported to the Meade County Jail.
