RAPID CITY, S.D. — July has been significantly hotter and drier than normal at Rapid City Regional Airport, according to climatological data through July 27.
The average high temperature for the month was 94.9 degrees, which is 8 degrees above normal. The average low temperature is 64.1 6 degrees above the average of 58.3.
Precipitation totaled just over an inch for the month, about half of the normal 1.99 inches for the period.
The hottest day of the month was July 25, when the temperature reached 112 degrees, which was an all-time record, followed by 105 degrees on July 12 and July 26. With yesterday’s high reaching 100, it marked the second time this month the airport has recorded at least 4 consecutive days of triple-digit high temperatures. Temperatures have reached the century mark 11 times in July.
Temperatures for the rest of the week are expected to reach the mid to upper 90’s before a blast of heat Sunday is expected to push temperatures past 100 degrees.
