CUSTER COUNTY, S.D. — Firefighters battled several new wildfires across the Black Hills on Monday, including the Bender, Grace, Whiskey, Song Dog and Jackson Narrows fires.
The Bender Fire, burned about 30 acres west of Hermosa and prompted officials to advise residents in the area to be prepared to evacuate if conditions worsened.
The Grace Fire was reported along the eastern edge of Custer State Park, The Whiskey Fire was at 5 acres 16 miles west of Custer and the Song Dog Fire was estimated at 38 acres in Custer County.
Farther south, the Jackson Narrows Fire burned in Fall River County south of Hot Springs scorching just over 60 acres. Officials said no homes were threatened and no structures were in danger.
Fire crews remained on scene Monday as dry, hot conditions continued to elevate wildfire concerns across western South Dakota.
