Authorities continue an intensive search for Linda Thacker 65 year-old of St. Onge. Thacker was reported missing on August 19 after last being seen the previous afternoon. Her vehicle was discovered later that day in the rugged Boundary Gulch area of Wyoming, prompting a multi-agency search effort that remains active nearly a week later.
Search and rescue teams from both Wyoming and South Dakota have been deployed, utilizing a wide array of resources including Lakota and Blackhawk helicopters, drones equipped with thermal imaging, and six specialized K-9 units trained in scent detection, cadaver recovery, and man-tracking. Certified human trackers from multiple agencies have also joined the effort.
The terrain in Boundary Gulch has proven to be a major obstacle. Dense vegetation and steep, uneven ground have complicated both aerial surveillance and ground operations. Despite these challenges, three K-9 teams remain actively engaged in the search, with plans to continue into the following day.
The Crook County Sheriff’s Office and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office are leading a joint investigation. Officials are pursuing leads based on cell phone data, interviews with family members, and other sources. Investigators have noted that certain aspects of the case suggest Mrs. Thacker may not wish to be found, though they emphasize that the investigation is ongoing and all possibilities remain open.
Authorities urge anyone with information about Linda Thacker’s whereabouts to contact either the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office or the Crook County Sheriff’s Office.
