STURGIS, S.D. – The City of Sturgis has updated its ordinance to allow residential camping during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, formalizing a long-standing practice that provides additional lodging options for visitors.
City officials have issued 41 permits for more than 860 campers, allowing tents and RVs on residential properties. Under the new policy, property owners can obtain a free permit to host more than 10 guests during the rally.
The ordinance change replaces previous restrictions and gives the city a formal process to regulate residential camping while accommodating the influx of rally attendees each year.
