Rapid City Police are investigating another fatal shooting. At approximately 7:15 p.m. Wednesday evening, officers responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex located in the 200 block of East Watertown Street. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds inside one of the units. Despite immediate emergency aid provided by officers, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several individuals have been detained for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the incident was targeted and not a random act of violence.
Authorities remained on-site as they work to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation are actively assisting in the case.
Anyone with information that may aid the investigation is urged to contact Detective Brendan Lenard at 605-394-4131. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by texting ‘RCPD’ followed by the information to 847411.
Officials have stated that there is no indication this case is connected to the separate homicide investigation involving Nicholas Selig, who remains a person of interest in the shooting death of Vernon Selig.
