RAPID CITY, S.D. — An 18-year-old Pine Ridge man was arrested early July 30 after allegedly forcing his way into a Rapid City apartment and threatening a resident with a handgun before fleeing from police.
According to police, officers were dispatched at approximately 12:50 a.m. July 30 to an apartment at 205 E. Knollwood Drive following a report that a male suspect had entered the residence without permission and threatened an occupant with a firearm.
When officers arrived, they met with the resident, who told them the suspect had already left the apartment. Police then began searching the surrounding area and soon located a man matching the description provided by witnesses.
Authorities said officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, but he ran from police, leading officers on a brief foot pursuit. The suspect was ultimately apprehended and identified as Aaron Brown, 18, of Pine Ridge.
During the investigation, a witness positively identified Brown as the individual involved in the incident. Officers also searched the route Brown allegedly took while fleeing and recovered a handgun, according to police.
Brown was arrested on charges of First Degree Burglary and Aggravated Assault. He was subsequently transported to the Pennington County Jail, where he was booked pending further court proceedings.
The incident remains under investigation. As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Brown is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
