DEVILS TOWER, Wyo. — The Left Creek Fire, which burned approximately one mile from Devils Tower National Monument, is now 100% contained after scorching 282 acres, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
The wildfire was first reported Saturday morning and prompted the evacuation of all visitors and employees from Devils Tower National Monument as flames advanced toward the iconic landmark. By Sunday evening, the fire had grown significantly, drawing more than 150 firefighters along with air and ground resources to assist in suppression efforts.
Officials said hot and dry weather conditions contributed to the fire’s growth over the weekend.
Devils Tower National Monument was temporarily closed because of the fire, but park officials announced Monday on social media that the monument was expected to reopen to the public.
The cause of the fire has not been released.
