RAPID CITY, S.D. — A traffic stop Saturday afternoon led to multiple arrests after three occupants fled from an SUV and police discovered drugs, firearms, and other evidence tied to a nearby apartment.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., officers observed a silver SUV run a stop sign at Anamosa Street and North Seventh Street before entering a parking lot on Atlas Street and nearly colliding with another vehicle. Police conducted a traffic stop, but the driver and two passengers fled on foot after the SUV stopped near 1330 Atlas Street.
One passenger, identified as 21-year-old Daiondra Tyon of Oelrichs, remained in the vehicle and was detained. A search of the SUV uncovered methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded pistol magazine.
Investigators connected two of the fleeing suspects to a nearby apartment and obtained a search warrant. Officers located the driver, 22-year-old Cylis Chipps of Rapid City, and passenger, 20-year-old Damon Milk of Rapid City, inside the residence. The search also yielded additional drugs and firearms-related evidence. Two handguns were recovered along the route the suspects allegedly took while fleeing.
Police also arrested 55-year-old Tanya Bettelyoun, who was found inside the apartment and had an outstanding warrant.
Charges from the incident include obstruction, drug possession, firearms violations, warrant arrests, traffic offenses, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
