WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune is promoting a new five-year farm bill aimed at strengthening support for South Dakota farmers, ranchers and rural communities.
The legislation includes provisions to bolster crop insurance programs, modernize farm loan options, expand assistance for livestock producers, and provide additional grazing opportunities on Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) land.
The bill also invests in rural infrastructure, broadband access, health care and economic development, while seeking to support small meat processors and improve transparency in fertilizer pricing.
In addition, the measure would make the year-round sale of E15 fuel permanent, a move supporters say would benefit both agricultural producers and consumers by expanding ethanol markets and fuel choices.
Thune said the proposal is designed to provide long-term certainty for agriculture while addressing the needs of rural America.
