RAPID CITY, S.D. — A wet stretch of weather over the last week brought more than 3 inches of rain to Rapid City, pushing the monthly precipitation total well above normal for August.
According to climatological data from the National Weather Service office in Rapid City, the city received 3.09 inches of precipitation through Aug. 16, compared to the normal August total of 1.28 inches.
The area recieved 1.95 inches yesterday, on top of 0.46 inches on Aug. 11, and around a quarter inch on August 13th and 15th.
Rain was recorded on seven consecutive days from Aug. 10 through Aug. 16, providing much-needed moisture across the region after a hot and mostly dry start to the month.
The recent rainfall has left Rapid City with precipitation totals running well above seasonal averages midway through August.
