ROSEBUD, S.D. — Two people have been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for the 2019 killing of a 15-year-old boy on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation.
U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte sentenced Dillion Millard, 27, of Rosebud, and Charmaine Medicine, 31, of Parmelee, on Aug. 10 after each pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Both will also serve five years of supervised release.
According to prosecutors, Millard and Medicine lured the victim to a secluded area in July 2019, where Millard strangled the teen. Authorities said the pair later hung the body from a tree and returned hours later to burn it in an attempt to destroy evidence.
The case remained unsolved for nearly five years until Millard confessed in May 2024, leading to federal indictments the following month.
The case was investigated by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
