Over 20,000 visitors gathered Friday to witness the 60th annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup, where 60 horseback riders—including Gov. Larry Rhoden—herded over 1,400 bison through the hills.
The roundup, held for herd health checks and population management, included branding calves, pregnancy testing females, and selecting males for auction. This year’s auction is set for Nov. 1.
Despite warm weather slowing the herd, spectators from across the country and abroad enjoyed the sights and sounds of the thundering bison. The event continues to be a major draw, with a record attendance of 24,178 set in 2024.
