RAPID CITY, S.D. – A 22-year-old Rapid City man has been sentenced to federal prison after being convicted on multiple child exploitation charges.
Jesse Luiz Jaso was sentenced August 14th to five years in federal prison for distributing, receiving, and possessing child sexual abuse material. The sentences will run concurrently, followed by five years of supervised release.
Federal prosecutors say the case began in February 2023 when Rapid City Police received a cybertip alleging Jaso was distributing illegal material online. Investigators later searched Jaso’s phone and found evidence that he had obtained and exchanged child sexual abuse material with others over the internet.
In addition to his prison sentence, Jaso was ordered to pay a one-thousand-dollar fine, a three-hundred-dollar assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, and must register as a sex offender.
The case was investigated by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and prosecuted through the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative.
Jaso was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service following sentencing.
