South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that Duane Newlander, 55, of Buffalo, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of Abuse or Cruelty to a Minor.
Newlander was sentenced in August in Butte County Circuit Court, receiving 10 years for each charge stemming from separate cases in Butte and Harding counties. The sentences will be served concurrently.
The offenses occurred between 2019 and 2021 in Butte County, and between 2016 and 2020 in Harding County.
The investigation was led by South Dakota’s Division of Criminal Investigation, with support from the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, Harding County Sheriff’s Office, and Belle Fourche Police Department. Prosecution was handled by the Attorney General’s Office in collaboration with the Butte and Harding County State’s Attorney’s Offices.
