The owner of a horse found dead near Pactola Reservoir is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the person or persons responsible.
According to the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, the horse was discovered on October 9 in the area of McCurdy Gulch Road. A preliminary investigation indicates the animal was killed by an assault involving a shovel. The owner found the horse and reported the incident.
Authorities are working with the state veterinarian as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials believe the attack occurred within 24 hours of the horse being found.
Residents in the area are asked to review any security camera footage for suspicious activity. Investigators are also requesting reports of unusual vehicles or individuals seen in the vicinity.
