South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is praising Meta’s recent decision to tighten content restrictions for teenagers on Instagram, calling it a meaningful step toward online safety.
On Tuesday, Meta announced that teen accounts will now default to PG-13-level content, limiting exposure to material involving sex, drugs, or dangerous stunts. Teens won’t be able to adjust these settings without parental approval, and parents will have the option to apply even stricter controls.
Attorney General Jackley, who joined 41 other attorneys general last year in filing lawsuits against Meta, alleged that the company had intentionally designed addictive features on Instagram and other platforms that negatively impacted children and teens. He welcomed the company’s new policy as a sign of progress.
