Deadwood City Commissioner Blake Joseph has taken legal action to delay a potential recall election, filing a temporary restraining order Tuesday against the city government and Finance Officer Jessicca McKeown. The move temporarily blocks the city commission from scheduling the election.
The commission had planned to set the election date during a special meeting Tuesday, following McKeown’s verification of a citizen-led petition seeking Joseph’s removal. With the restraining order in place, the petition must now be reviewed and validated in court before any further steps toward an election can proceed.
During the meeting’s public comment period, several residents voiced criticism of Josep.
Commissioner Joseph did not respond to the public remarks during the meeting.
