RAPID CITY, S.D. -A free community discussion in Rapid City Thursday evening will explore how residents can better care for the resources they share.
South Dakota Mines assistant professor Dr. Richard Burgess will lead the latest Philosophy in the Park event at Trinity Eco Prayer Park, located at Fourth and St. Joseph Streets. The program begins at 7 p.m.
After a brief presentation, Burgess will guide small-group discussions on sustainable ways communities can manage shared resources. The conversation will center on the idea known as the “tragedy of the commons,” which examines how shared spaces and resources can be overused or depleted.
Organizers say participants will discuss challenges facing parks and other community spaces, while exploring practical ways to be good stewards of those resources.
Trinity Eco Prayer Park, which uses native Black Hills plants to help filter neighborhood stormwater, is hosting the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket.
The discussion marks the final event of the park’s summer programming season.
