Matthew Hade, 30, was sentenced Monday to 10 years in the South Dakota State Penitentiary for aggravated assault in a domestic violence case. The sentence will run consecutively to a 27-year term he previously received in Meade County for violating probation tied to a rape conviction.
The October 2024 assault occurred while Hade was still on probation. According to court testimony, he violently attacked his 19-year-old girlfriend after an argument, punching, strangling, and throwing a weight at her. Her account was supported by physical evidence and Hade’s own statements.
Both the current and prior victims addressed the court, expressing the lasting trauma and calling for accountability. Prosecutors argued Hade posed an ongoing threat, citing his history of violence and failure to reform.
