RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Area Schools notified families Monday evening after a student brought an airsoft gun to school and showed it to other students.
District administrators learned of the incident Monday evening and confirmed the item was an airsoft gun, not a firearm. However, school officials say airsoft guns are prohibited on campus because they can closely resemble real firearms and pose safety concerns.
The student involved will face disciplinary action in accordance with the district’s student handbook and discipline policies.
School leaders are also urging parents to discuss the seriousness of bringing airsoft guns or any items resembling firearms onto school property. Students are encouraged to immediately report any airsoft guns, firearms, or other concerning items to school staff.
No injuries were reported, and the district says student safety remains a top priority.
