RAPID CITY, S.D. – Visitors planning a trip to Jewel Cave National Monument will see new operating hours beginning September 8 as the park transitions to its winter schedule.
The monument will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. throughout the winter season.
Park officials say visitors can still take part in the Scenic and Discovery cave tours, weather permitting. Reservations are encouraged through Recreation.gov, although a limited number of tickets will be available each day on a first-come, first-served basis.
The visitor center store will remain open during normal operating hours.
Located west of Custer, Jewel Cave is one of the world’s longest cave systems and is known for its extensive underground passages and unique rock formations.
Officials say the latest visitor information and operational updates will be available on the monument’s website and social media channels.
