The South Dakota Board of Regents has appointed Dr. Alan D. LaFave as the next president of Northern State University (NSU) in Aberdeen, effective January.
LaFave returns to NSU, his alma mater, after serving seven years as president of Valley City State University in North Dakota. His career at NSU spans nearly 30 years, including roles as Professor of Music, Dean of the School of Fine Arts, and Provost.
LaFave holds a bachelor’s degree from NSU and advanced degrees from Arizona State University. He expressed enthusiasm about returning to Aberdeen and emphasized his commitment to growth, innovation, and community partnerships.
His appointment follows a national search involving the Regents, NSU’s search committee, and local stakeholders.
