The South Dakota Department of Social Services (DSS) has finished processing partial SNAP benefits for all eligible recipients. These benefits were made available on Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards overnight.
The partial amounts are based on guidance received from the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) on November 8. This guidance does not alter how benefits are calculated under federal rules, so the amounts will vary among the 37,000 eligible households.
Once the federal government shutdown ends and full funding resumes, DSS will issue the remaining portion of November SNAP benefits in a second installment. Together, both payments will equal the full monthly benefit.
To implement the FNS plan, DSS had to process all cases before loading benefits onto EBT cards, including work over the Veterans Day holiday.
SNAP recipients are encouraged to check their EBT balances using the app or online portal.
