RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City officials say traffic has returned to normal at the intersection of Haines Avenue and Van Buren Street after a hit-and-run crash damaged a signal pole Thursday morning.
City crews spent much of the day stabilizing the heavily damaged pole and making modifications to keep the traffic signal operating safely.
According to City Traffic Engineer Matt Layman, crews have now completed their work at the intersection, and the traffic signal is fully operational. All traffic restrictions and lane limitations have been removed.
The damage occurred when a vehicle struck the signal pole and left the scene. No information about the suspect vehicle has been released.
While the intersection is now operating normally, city officials say additional work will be scheduled in the future to replace the damaged signal arm attached to the pole.
Motorists can once again expect normal traffic flow through the busy intersection of Haines Avenue and Van Buren Street.
