RAPID CITY, S.D. – As Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, many Rapid City employees are making plans to enjoy the final three-day holiday weekend of the season.
According to a city employee survey, camping topped the list of planned activities, with nearly a quarter of respondents saying they’ll spend the weekend outdoors. About 20 percent plan to tackle lawn work, while another one in five employees will be traveling outside the area.
Sporting events, fishing, and sightseeing around the Black Hills also ranked high on the list. Other respondents said they plan to spend time hiking, biking, or taking walks during the long weekend.
Some of the more unique plans include kayaking, stargazing, attending a Pokémon marathon, celebrating family birthdays, and volunteering at the Southern Hills Triathlon.
Of course, not everyone is taking time off. Some city employees said they’ll be working through the holiday weekend, while others plan to relax at home, catch up on reading, enjoy a barbecue, or simply spend time with family and friends.
