RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation in western South Dakota and on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
40-year-old Gaylen Holy Rock was sentenced August 31st to 10 years and one month in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Holy Rock obtained methamphetamine from co-conspirators in the Rapid City area and distributed it on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Prosecutors say he was responsible for distributing more than 500 grams of methamphetamine during the conspiracy, which began in 2023.
In addition to his prison sentence, Holy Rock will serve five years of supervised release and was ordered to pay a fine and assessment fee.
The case was investigated by the Badlands Safe Trails Task Force, a multi-agency group that includes federal, tribal, and state law enforcement agencies. Holy Rock was taken into U.S. Marshals custody following his sentencing.
