BOX ELDER, S.D. – Box Elder residents have until Friday to submit items for the city’s Centennial Time Capsule project.
The city has extended the deadline to September 11th as part of its effort to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary and preserve a snapshot of life in 2026 for future generations.
Officials are seeking items that reflect local history, culture, family life and the community’s connection to Ellsworth Air Force Base. Suggested submissions include school memorabilia, local business items, artwork, family photographs and letters to future residents.
The time capsule will be dedicated during the upcoming Salute to Ellsworth celebration and is scheduled to be opened in 2064, marking 100 years since Box Elder adopted its first city ordinance.
Residents can submit items at City Hall during regular business hours by completing a Time Capsule Submission Form. More information is available through the City of Box Elder.
