RAPID CITY, S.D. – As the nation observes the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, organizations in western South Dakota are encouraging residents to honor the day through volunteer service.
The Helpline Center and Habitat for Humanity of the Black Hills are partnering to connect volunteers with community projects as part of the National Day of Service and Remembrance.
Organizers say volunteering not only helps local communities but can also improve mental well-being. Helpline Center Volunteer Connections Manager Isabella Oliver says community involvement can be a protective factor for people dealing with challenges such as anxiety or depression, and volunteering provides an opportunity to build meaningful connections.
Residents interested in participating can find volunteer opportunities through the Helpline Center’s volunteer connections program.
