RAPID CITY, S.D. – The City of Rapid City is encouraging residents to get involved in local government by serving on one of the city’s boards, committees, or commissions.
City officials say there are more than 30 citizen groups that provide advice and recommendations to the mayor, city council, and city departments on a wide range of issues.
Opportunities are available on boards focused on topics including historic preservation, parks, air quality, disability issues, senior services, and sustainability.
Most appointments are recommended by the mayor and approved by the Rapid City Common Council. Some positions may require specific skills, experience, or residency qualifications.
Residents interested in serving can fill out a citizen interest application on the boards and commissions page at rcgov.org. Applications will remain on file with the mayor’s office and be considered as openings become available.
Most committees meet monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly. More information is available through the Rapid City Mayor’s Office.
