RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Regional Airport and Rapid City Fire Department will conduct a full-scale emergency response exercise on September 23 to test how local agencies would respond to a major airport incident.
The drill begins at 5 p.m. and will include multiple emergency response agencies, emergency vehicles, and community volunteers. Participants will use the incident command system to evaluate communication, coordination, resource management, and overall emergency response operations.
Airport officials say the exercise is required by the Federal Aviation Administration every three years to maintain FAA certification.
Residents and travelers can expect increased emergency vehicle activity around the airport during the exercise. Officials stress that the response is planned and does not indicate a real emergency.
