NEWELL, S.D. – A Newell man is dead after a motorcycle crash east of Belle Fourche Saturday morning.
According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 7 a.m. on U.S. Highway 212, about 11 miles east of Belle Fourche.
Investigators say a 55-year-old man was riding a 2007 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide eastbound when the motorcycle left the roadway, went through a ditch, and struck a fence.
The rider suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities say he was not wearing a helmet.
His name has not been released pending notification of family members. The crash remains under investigation, and all information released so far is preliminary.
