RAPID CITY, S.D. – Drivers across Rapid City and western South Dakota will see several construction projects, lane closures and detours in the coming days as crews work on roads and water infrastructure.
In Rapid City, water line repairs on East Omaha Street near Lacrosse Street are scheduled from September 21st through the 28th, with one westbound lane closed during construction. Another water main project on Stumer Road near Walmart begins September 22nd and will include lane closures and a temporary road closure with detours in place.
Luna Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction on September 23rd for asphalt repairs, while the northbound St. Joseph Street ramp beneath the Campbell Street Viaduct will close September 24th and 25th as bridge work continues.
Meanwhile, a highway resurfacing project on portions of Highways 34 and 73 in Meade County has been completed, providing smoother roads and improved drainage.
State officials also announced new airport funding policies that will increase financial support for many South Dakota airport improvement projects, including greater flexibility for future terminal expansions.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution in work zones and check South Dakota’s 511 system for the latest road conditions and construction updates.
