Rapid City officials are cautioning residents about a recent phone scam targeting utility customers. According to the City’s Public Works Department, a resident reported receiving a call from someone falsely claiming to be with City Utilities. The caller alleged that the customer had made a duplicate payment and requested bank account information to issue a refund.
City representatives emphasize that this is a fraudulent scheme. The City does not contact customers by phone to request banking details. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately and report the incident to the appropriate City department.
