BOX ELDER, S.D. – Ellsworth Air Force Base is making changes to school transportation after bus capacity problems left some elementary students without enough space on buses last week.
Base Commander Erick Lord says the situation is unacceptable and that no child should be left waiting at the curb because a bus is full.
To address the issue, officials have rerouted the high school bus to help ensure all elementary students have a ride home. The base is also working to secure a fourth bus as quickly as possible.
While some delays may still occur, base leaders say the changes are intended to make sure students get home safely and reliably.
Officials say no child will be left without transportation as they continue working on a long-term solution.
