RAPID CITY, S.D. – Law enforcement agencies have cleared the scene at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City after a bomb threat Thursday morning was determined to be unfounded.
Rapid City Police, along with state and federal partners, responded to the threat and conducted extensive searches of the hospital using explosives-detection teams, including specialized resources from Ellsworth Air Force Base and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
After several hours, investigators reported no suspicious items or evidence to support the threat.
Officials say hospital operations were never interrupted, and the facility did not enter a formal lockdown. Patients and visitors were able to continue entering and exiting the hospital throughout the response.
Police say the call appears similar to a growing number of hoax threats targeting healthcare facilities nationwide. The investigation is continuing with assistance from the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and federal authorities.
Law enforcement officials thanked hospital staff and partner agencies for their cooperation and quick response in ensuring public safety.
