RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City woman is facing multiple felony charges after police say she stole a Rapid City Fire Department ambulance SUV and led officers on a pursuit Friday morning.
Police were initially called to an apartment on Curtis Street for a reported assault. While emergency crews were treating an injured person, authorities say 26-year-old Mahpiya Red Feather got into a Mobile Medic vehicle and drove away.
Officers quickly located the stolen SUV and pursued it eastbound on Interstate 90. The chase continued onto Highway 14-16 before spike strips, deployed by the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, brought the vehicle to a stop in New Underwood.
Red Feather was taken into custody, and officers determined she is currently on parole.
She was arrested on charges including Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement, Eluding, Grand Theft, and a Parole Hold. Police say additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
The Rapid City Police Department thanked the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and South Dakota Highway Patrol for assisting in the pursuit.
