FAIRBURN, S.D. – The Fairburn Fire Department is sharing a lighter side of emergency response after what it described as a late-night “car versus couch” crash on Highway 79.
According to a social media post, firefighters responded to the unusual incident just west of Fairburn on Friday night, after a vehicle struck a couch that had somehow ended up on the highway.
Officials reported no injuries to the driver, but joked that the couch did not survive the encounter. Firefighters were tasked with clearing the remains of the couch from the roadway.
The incident also marked the first call for the department’s new Rescue 10 vehicle, which had entered service just one week earlier.
Authorities did not report any human injuries, and the roadway was cleared following the unusual crash.
