RAPID CITY, S.D. – Drivers in downtown Rapid City should plan for possible delays next weekend as improvement work takes place at the Fifth Street railroad crossing.
Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern Railroad crews are scheduled to begin work on Saturday, October 10, with construction continuing through Sunday, October 11. The project includes upgrades to railroad signals and surface improvements at the crossing.
During the work, the two outside lanes of Fifth Street near the crossing will be closed to traffic to allow crews to safely complete the upgrades.
City officials are urging motorists to use caution, watch for construction activity, and expect possible delays, especially during peak travel times.
The improvements are intended to enhance safety and maintain the railroad crossing infrastructure in the downtown area.
