RAPID CITY, S.D. – Sanford Sports has selected veteran coach and trainer Casey Frandsen to lead its new Sanford Sports Academy basketball program in Rapid City.
Frandsen brings more than 20 years of coaching and player-development experience to the role. Most recently, he served as basketball director and lead trainer at E3 Sports Complex, which was acquired by Sanford Sports in August as part of the organization’s expansion into western South Dakota.
Before joining Sanford Sports, Frandsen coached at James Valley Christian School in Huron and spent more than a decade operating Next Step Basketball in Washington, where he worked with athletes through individual, small-group, and team training programs.
Frandsen also enjoyed a standout playing career. He was a two-time Washington 1A Player of the Year and State Tournament MVP before going on to play at the University of Portland, where he scored more than 1,000 career points and set a school record for three-pointers over three seasons.
Frandsen says his goal is to help young athletes develop strong fundamentals, confidence, and work habits while learning how to translate those skills from practice into game situations.
Sanford Sports officials say the new basketball academy is part of the organization’s continued investment in youth sports opportunities throughout the Black Hills region.
