RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City residents are invited to enjoy food and support a local cause later this month as city employees host the second annual Community Chili Cookoff benefiting the City Utility Assist program.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Dahl Arts Center. Organizers are encouraging community members to enter their favorite chili recipes in a friendly competition, while the public is invited to sample the entries and make donations to support the utility assistance fund.
The City Utility Assist program helps Rapid City residents facing temporary financial hardship maintain essential water, sewer, and solid waste services. Officials say every dollar raised goes directly toward assisting local households in need.
Last year’s chili cookoff raised approximately $1,600 for the program, and organizers hope to build on that success this year. Attendees will also serve as judges, voting for People’s Choice awards and helping determine the event’s top chili recipes.
City officials say the fundraiser is designed to bring the community together while providing practical assistance to neighbors experiencing difficult circumstances. The program is administered through a partnership with the Saint Vincent DePaul Society.
Residents interested in competing in the cook-off can register online, while community members are encouraged to attend, enjoy the event, and support the utility assistance effort.
