BOX ELDER, S.D. – The City of Box Elder will collect traffic data next week as officials continue planning for future growth and transportation improvements throughout the community.
Temporary traffic cameras and counting equipment will be installed from Oct. 13 through Oct. 15 at four intersections: Radar Hill Road and Highway 1416, Radar Hill Road and Cheyenne Boulevard, Elk Vale Road and Cheyenne Boulevard, and Northern Lights Boulevard and Cheyenne Boulevard.
The equipment will monitor traffic volumes throughout the day, including peak travel periods, to help city planners better understand current conditions and future infrastructure needs.
Box Elder Public Information Officer Rebecca Bader said the study is intended to help the city keep pace with residential growth and increasing traffic demands. Officials say the information collected will be used to guide road designs and improve transportation connections both within Box Elder and between Box Elder and Rapid City.
The traffic counters and cameras are temporary and will be removed once data collection is complete.
City leaders say the study is part of ongoing efforts to ensure roads and infrastructure keep up with the community’s continued growth.
