The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office reports a decline in most crime categories for the third quarter of 2025 compared to last year, with the exception of a slight rise in motor vehicle thefts.
“Auto thefts fluctuate but remain low overall,” said Patrol Captain Kraig Wood, urging residents to lock vehicles and avoid leaving firearms inside.
Overdose reports increased slightly, though fatal overdoses declined. “Drug use remains a concern,” said Captain Taylor Sperle, noting ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking.
At the Care Campus, the sheriff’s office continues shifting focus from Safe Beds to detox services. “We’re prioritizing long-term change through outreach and treatment,” said Director Tony Verchio.
Sheriff Brian Mueller emphasized the department’s commitment to reducing violent crime and addressing addiction through innovative strategies.
