RAPID CITY, S.D. – Hundreds of people gathered at Main Street Square in downtown Rapid City Monday for an Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebration highlighted by a performance from rapper Macklemore.
The event, organized by NDN Collective, featured community speakers, cultural activities, vendors, and live music throughout the afternoon and evening.
Among those addressing the crowd was Oglala Sioux Tribe President Frank Star Comes Out, who emphasized the importance of recognizing Indigenous Peoples’ Day and bringing Native nations together.
Star Comes Out said the day serves as an opportunity to honor Indigenous people, celebrate their contributions, and promote unity among tribal communities across South Dakota and beyond.
Organizers say the annual event is intended to celebrate Indigenous culture, resilience, and community while creating a space for education, reflection, and entertainment.
