RAPID VALLEY, S.D. – The Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department celebrated a major milestone this week, hosting its 60th annual Pancake Supper and bringing hundreds of community members together for the longtime tradition.
Fire officials estimate approximately 750 people attended the Oct. 9 event, which has served as a gathering place for firefighters and residents for six decades.
Several members of the volunteer department have deep ties to the event, with some firefighters helping organize and serve at the supper for more than 40 years.
In addition to bringing the community together, the annual fundraiser helps support the department’s operations. Donations raised during this year’s event will be used to purchase protective gear, firefighting equipment, and other supplies needed to serve the Rapid Valley community.
Department leaders say the continued success of the Pancake Supper reflects the strong support residents have shown for their volunteer firefighters over the past 60 years.
